Understanding God and the Bible
God is a Supreme Being and as humans, we won't be able to fully understand His greatness, but we can be sure that He wants us to know Him and seek Him. Thus, He left us the Bible so we can understand a little bit better who He is and how He does things.
Although some things in the Bible require lots of study to be understood, the important matters of faith are simple and easy to understand. The important thing is to take everything with a good heart and understand it wisely.
What is the Holy Trinity?
The Holy Trinity is God, who is three persons in one. It is composed of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They are three different persons but one in nature and in will. Jesus came to do the will of the Father, and so does the Holy Spirit too. However, the three of them have different functions. God the Father has always been, and He is the creator of everything, all-powerful and all-knowing, and our minds are not enough to understand His greatness. The Son, who is Jesus Christ, also calls himself “the beginning of God’s creation (Revelation 3:14). He came to this Earth as a human being and was born of a virgin. He died and resurrected, which was witnessed by many, and then He ascended to heaven. Everything was created for him and with Him (Colossians 1:16). And the third person is the Holy Spirit, also called the helper or the comforter of our souls. The Holy Spirit has the mission of assisting the believers in their needs, whether those needs are physical or spiritual. And He supplies the power that the followers of Jesus will need for the works of God on the Earth.
We know from the Bible that God is three because in Genesis 1, the word God is translated from the Hebrew Elohim, which is the plural for God. Also, let’s note that in Genesis 1, He says: “Let us make”. In addition, we know that God is one because it says it all through the Bible. Deuteronomy 6:4 says: "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one”. The Holy Trinity is three different persons who are part of each other and are one in essence.
How do I know God is Real?
Jesus came to Earth as a human, and people were able to see him and live with him. However, the Bible says that nobody has ever seen the Father, only Jesus (John 1:8). This is due to God’s extreme holiness and greatness. Nevertheless, His presence is often experienced as a warm, peaceful, and joyful feeling that brings rest to your weary souls. His presence usually lingers among us during worship times and where the gospel is being preached. For the ones who have experienced God’s presence and miracles, there is no more doubt that God is real. In the Old Testament times, God chose to show Himself with miracles and wonders. Also, Jesus proved that he was God through miracles and by resurrecting from the dead. He declared about Himself: "I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25). God shows Himself to the world through supernatural things. However, most of the time, He won’t show Himself in our lives until we seek Him with a sincere heart.
Has the Bible been Changed Over Time?
No, the Bible hasn’t been changed. The original languages of the Old Testament are Hebrew and Aramaic. There were people among the Jews of the Old Testament who dedicated their lives to copying the scriptures, and they had to be extremely accurate at doing this. The earliest manuscript of the New Testament is dated as early as the second century. The oldest manuscripts are not all in one place. They can be found in private collections, libraries, and museums around the world.
